Rife with meaning, full of symbolism and of endless interest to this with intellectual curiosity, Flight is a truly unique piece of artwork that will engage viewers of all backgrounds, and have them wondering and guessing at the many layers of meaning present within it. This painting's main subject is quite clear and evident from the first glance. The focal point of this painting are the figures that are scattered about the center of the canvas. While these figures are of different tonalities, colors, shapes, styles and sizes, what they do have in common is the fact that they are all running. “Running from what?” you may ask, but that is ultimately up to you, the viewer to decide, as you create narratives and contexts based on your exploration of the painting. As mentioned, each figure varies tremendously in the style the artist has used to represent it. The styles range from impressionistic, to science fiction-esque, to bare minimalist. The colors in which the artist has painted these figures includes red, blue, white, and black. Perhaps they are all different characters, there personality represented on their skin? Whatever the case, this section of the painting alone could keep the viewer interested for hours. On either end of the painting, there are wide blocks of color. On the right side of the painting a thick red band of red reaches to the very edges of the canvas, and on top of this layer of paint, a blue arrow is painted, indicating the same direction in which the many figures run. On the left side of the painting the canvas is dominated by blue. Here, again, we have an arrow, this time in red, but still, it points in the same direction, and is emphasized by a series of black circles around it. The overall impressions of this painting are quite hard to pin down and will depend largely on the context in which the viewer has decided to think of the action taking place in this painting.
The general design of Flight suits its subject matter quite nicely. Instead of using a single, large canvas to paint on, the artist has instead used three separate canvas pieces. These pieces vary slightly in size, but mostly maintain a rectangular shape. The canvas on the far left has the greatest size, while the other two pieces are slenderer. This design provides a sense of movement and growth that emphasizes the wild movement of the subjects themselves. If you enjoy the presentation style of this painting, you may want to investigate our
