Modern Sunrise is certainly celestial in its depiction of heavenly bodies through an undeniably contemporary lens. Yet, despite the modern flair of this painting, the subjects lose none of their impact, or any of their timeless resonance. This original canvas painting is devoid of any actual land, and thus, is almost just a glowing representation of outerspace, suddenly a more comforting than scary thought. Integral to Modern Sunrise is, of course, the sun. The sun here is situated in the left corner of the painting and grows across the canvas. It is mostly orange in color, although, toward the edges of the canvas, the colors darken considerably. Beautifully patterned rays of sunshine line the outer edges of this shape, using a series of small circles to create the effect of movement, and enhance the contemporary feel of the piece. On top of the largest circle representing the sun is a smaller circle. This circle has a similarly light color of yellow, but is dominated by horizontal lines, making it quite distinguished from the first circle. There are other shapes present in Modern Sunrise, from rectangles to lines creating shapes not fully realized. There is much activity in Modern Sunrise, yet the painting overall maintains a very clean appearance. Orange and brown are the dominant colors in Modern Sunrise, even in the background. These terracotta tones provide for a strong sense of warmth in the piece that will radiate outwards, having a calming effect on your entire home.
