A unique interpretation of life is provided for all viewers of Sun Shadows. This painting combines a number of techniques and glorious elements- from patterning to heavy outlining, to a complex blending of colors to create a very moving visual experience that will be enjoyed by visitors to your home for many years to come. The subject of Sun Shadows encompasses a number of things. In the very center of the painting a stark black tree rises from the abstract indication of ground. The line is thickest at the base of the tree, but thins as it moves vertically across the piece, and then splays outward in a number of directions, the branches fanning out and creating an nice place to rest the eyes. Standing on either side of this tree is a giraffe. Both of the giraffes are rendered in a rather impressionistic manner, with carefully emphasis given to the most slender portions of their form, from the legs that help them stand so tall, to the delicately bent neck that is their trademark. These giraffes are rendered with little detail, but with a strong intention to create mood, and incorporate strong patterns that contribute to the overall mood of the piece. Within the lines that create the two majestic animals in the center of Sun Shadows are a series of patterns that emphasize circles. As you will see, this creates an attractive relationship between the interiors of the subjects and the less peripheral activity in the piece. The background of Sun Shadows itself is dominated by a single shade of yellow that lightens to white in the very center of the painting. While yellow is the primary color of the background, around the edges the canvas darkens to a dull shade of rust, and then finally, at the very corners, a very dark shade of brown. These colors keep the eye of the viewer perfectly focused in the center. Dancing all around these colors on the fringes of the piece are a series of small circles that mirror the circles found within the subjects, lending the piece a nice balance.
The design of Sun Shadows is a simple, but complimentary one. Here the artist has used three separate canvas panels. The center canvases is the lengthiest, while the two on the edges are a bit shorter and wider. This layout allows the tree in the center to grow to its full height and gain more importance. If you enjoy what you see in this painting, particularly its depiction of the natural world, you may be thrilled at what you find in our
